Attendance
At Fleetville Infant and Nursery School, we believe that improving attendance is everyone’s responsibility. Being in school every day is essential for your child’s learning, wellbeing, and future success.
The Department for Education (DfE) has recently published updated statutory guidance on school attendance, and we follow this carefully.
Our basic expectation for all pupils is 95% attendance. Overall, attendance at our school is excellent. Where attendance falls below this standard, it is usually due to holidays taken during term time. Please note that holidays during term time cannot be authorised and may result in a fine. All planned absences must be requested and an absence of leave for should be submitted to the school office.
We understand that children sometimes get sick, and absences for genuine illness are unavoidable. However, we are concerned when children are kept off school without good reason, as missing lessons can have a significant impact on learning and progress.
The Trust has attendance leads in each school, and all absences are carefully monitored at Trust level. We are here to support families if you need help getting your child to school regularly.
Your child needs to be in school to learn, and we appreciate your partnership in ensuring they attend as much as possible.
If your child is absent for and you have not notified us, a member of staff will call you to check you are all okay.
If your child is sick
We want to encourage your child to attend every day. However, if your child is sick and cannot attend school, you can call 01727 519221 to inform us. You will be able to leave a message for the office team to pick up.
You can also report an absence by emailing us on admin@fleetvilleinfants.herts.sch.uk
If your child needs Calpol, we do not feel they are well enough to attend school.
If your child has had sickness or diarrhoea, we ask you to keep your child off from school until they have been well for 48 hours. Very young children are 'super transmitters' of germs and we want to make sure all the children and staff stay as healthy as possible.
If you are not sure whether you should bring your child to school, please call the office and we will be happy to talk it through with you.
